Version 6.0 (Iris)
We have spent nearly an entire year working to put in place major system enhancements, as well as new Web 2.0 features like drag-and-drop ordering, Ajax-based database calls, a completely new inline editor, and export to Microsoft® Word.
- Export to Multiple Formats: New “export
maps” provide
a way to customize the export of
print catalog content on the fly. A default
export follows the table of contents you establish
in the system. But at export time, you can choose
to reorder or hide content from the export. This
means, for example, that a university can easily
create custom catalogs that retain all common
content (policies, procedures, etc.), but may
also include only the academic content for a
specific professional school or college. This
change reflects our continued commitment to the
evolving need on campus to move away from massive
offset print runs, and instead toward digital
print-on-demand. Export directly to Microsoft® Word
whenever needed.
- Custom Ordering: Custom ordering has been implemented
for virtually every possible content
category in Iris; and we have implemented
the custom ordering using drag-and-drop technology
to make this process easier than
ever. One huge benefit of the acalog ACMS™ is
that your e-catalog is always dynamically linked
to the Publisher system. You never need to “export” to
HTML and pass that along to a Webmaster. As you
build and modify your catalog in the system,
the HTML e-catalog is automatically built based
on your template and filter choices. Custom ordering
means you can now “break the rules” of alphanumeric
based lists, and order your content
in whatever way you want.
- PermaLinks: A new cross-linking feature allows
you to build your internal links
as you make your catalog edits, and
have those links automatically updated when
you rollover from one catalog to the next by
making a catalog copy. Remember, part of the
power of a system like acalog™ is
that a course exists in the system
just once for any catalog. The course may be “linked” to
dozens of programs, and literally
hundreds of places in a catalog. With PermaLinks,
you can be assured that you only need modify
your course once, and it will
be perfectly updated everywhere. And, keep in
mind that PermaLinks are also available for every
element of your catalog, from Custom Pages (text-based
content like policies, schedules, etc.), to departments,
programs, and just about every editable
item in your catalog. This new feature gives
you tremendous flexibility, while retaining the
power of your template driven e-catalog.
